Grape Escape News

MR & MRS GRAPE UPDATE

We have had a busy few months with so many tours over the long weekend in March and over Easter. Grape Escape turned 1 in March – we have had so much fun this past 12 months setting up the business and settling into our new lives living in Margaret River! We have had nearly 1200 people tour with us since we began last year which is pretty epic considering up until now it has been just us two running the tours!

Now we are even starting to see some familiar faces returning as some of our lovely guests are coming back for their annual holiday. This means we get to take them to a whole bunch of new places which is pretty damn cool & just so you know we keep track of all the tours we do & the venues we take you to so we can be sure to take you to some new places next time you visit!

Some of the Pawesome Tour Guests of the last few months

We are heading into a quieter period now and Mrs Grape is about to hang up her touring boots for a few months while the human incubation continues until the middle of winter when Little Grape will join us finally! Don’t worry though – she will still be doing all of the planning and organising in the background so our little business will continue to thrive – because woman.

A NEW FACE OF GRAPE ESCAPE

No it’s not another four-legged employee…

We are excited to have a new Wine Guide working with us who you may see around donning the Grape Escape logo. Ray joined us in April after a careful selection criteria – mainly judging his wine cellar. He has a long history working in the Margaret River wine industry and we are stoked to have him join us to deliver personalised tours with great local knowledge!

Here is an excerpt from our interview:

What kind of wine are you currently enjoying drinking?

All about 2014 Margaret River Cab blends while the straight varietals mature a little more. Over summer got right into medium bodied Shiraz Grenache, great when the temp is a little warmer.

We deemed his answer acceptable so he joined the team a few days later – lucky he didn’t say he likes sweet wines made with blueberries.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE REGION

  • Cabin Fever – This winter, put a hold on hibernation and visit the Margaret River region between July 13 and 22 for as much quality wine, seam-splitting comfort food, fireside brews and general good times as your body can handle. Experience chocolate, cheese and coffee appreciation, wine dinners, degustation menus, bonfires, brews, live music and more.

  • Victory Point cellar door building has begun! It is due for completion towards the end of the year. Very exciting as they have some of our favourite wines around and it will be so much easier to share them with our guests! Their 2014 Chardonnay & Cabernet have just been released and are absolutely divine – definitely wines worth putting in the cellar!

WINE OF THE MOMENT

Mrs Grape is still chugging down the mocktails wishing they were Cabernet…. While Mr Grape is all about the newly released Arlewood 2014 La Bratta Rosso – it is so silky, smooth & elegant – a fabulous wine that is both full bodied and serious, yet #smashable – we will be heading down to Paris at the cellar door and stocking up on these as soon as we finish purchasing all the essential baby items. We can take you there to try it any time you like, just let us know!

Wine to me is something that brings people together. Wine does promote conversation and promote civility, but it's also fascinating. It's the greatest subject to study. No matter how much you learn, every vintage is going to come at you with different factors that make you have to think again.

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

We hope to see you in the region soon!
